(a) All dan grades may wear a gi (uniform) that is intended for a lower-ranked dan grade. For example, a sandan may wear the uniform of either a shodan or that of a nidan.

(b) All dan grades must wear a white gi (uniform) and a plain black belt at any formal ceremony at which they are being promoted/elevated to their next rank.
